Certificate IV in Training and Assessment

Overview

A nationally recognised qualification providing the skills and knowledge required to facilitate learning and develop competency-based assessment.

Pre-requisites

For entry into any of these courses, English language and literacy requirements include good written and oral communication and interpersonal skills. Candidates must also be able to apply technology such as basic computer skills: produce documents, have access to a computer and research and analyse information on-line.

Those who are responsible for training program development and delivery, as well as for designing and conducting assessments.

Certification Process

Pre-reading and Preparation - 2 weeks
Workshop and Practice - 10 days face-to-face (delivered in 3 clusters of 3 days, 4 days and 3 days)
Complete and Submit Assessment - 24 weeks
Post Assessment Support - Ongoing for upto 24 weeks to complete assessments

Outcomes

Certificates and Statements of Attainment are provided at the end of each cluster to those who are deemed competent. Competency in all three clusters is necessary to obtain the qualification.

The Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is a nationally recognised qualification and comprises 14 units of competence. Successful completion of the 'Certificate IV in Training and Assessment' will equip participants to: 

  • understand, analyse and use nationally recognised Training Packages and units of competency
  • plan, prepare and deliver training to individuals and groups
  • design, develop and deliver work-based learning
  • plan, organise, develop and conduct assessments

Course Structure

Cluster 1 - The Workplace Trainer - Duration - 3 Days 

  • Gain confidence and learn how to communicate effectively to become a valued workplace coach, mentor, trainer and facilitator. Even if you currently perform a training role, this course will help you to effectively plan, organise, structure and facilitate training for groups within your workplace. Work-based projects are an integral part of this course and must be completed in order to receive the Statement of Attainment.

Cluster 2 - The Workplace Assessor - Duration 4 Days 

  • A skilled assessor is a valuable asset in any organisation to judge and confirm competent performance against required benchmarks. This comprehensive course will provide you with the necessary knowledge and skills to plan organise and assess progress in learning and judging whether competent performance within your organisation has been demonstrated. Work-based projects are an integral part of this course and must be completed in order to receive the Statement of Attainment.

Cluster 3 - The Vocational Practitioner - Duration 3 Days 

  • This course will suit people who are required to design competency-based learning programs in structured environments such as Registered Training Organisations. The skills learned can also be applied to customised, non-assessed industry training programs. Participants will also learn how to use training packages for their workplace. Work-based projects are an integral part of this course and must be completed in order to receive the Statement of Attainment.

The purpose of the course is to help participants:

  • Develop a sound understanding of Australian Vocational Education and Training, and the use of Training Packages and units of competency;
  • Develop the skills, knowledge and competencies to plan, prepare, design, develop and deliver training to adults using Competency Based Training and Assessment Principles;
  • Research, plan, organise, develop and undertake assessments for adults based on accredited and non-accredited training
